With both ALDS series over and the Braves winning one series in the National League, we have just a one-game MLB DFS slate between the Dodgers and Giants in San Francisco Thursday. SuperDraft has a unique way to play with the “multiplier” mode where there is no salary cap, so enjoy picking everyone you want. Instead, the safer/chalkier players have lower multipliers, while the players that appear to have more risk have higher multipliers, allowing for more upside.
With just the one game, you will select a “Champion” that has a 50% boost on their “Superflex” multiplier. Typically pitchers will score higher and thus are usually better in the “Champion” spot but that will be popular so it could make sense to pick a hitter instead.
Julio Urías, Los Angeles Dodgers (1.55x score multiplier)
Urías pitched against the Giants a whopping five times during the regular season and once already in Game 2 of the series. In the regular season, he allowed 11 earned runs but six of those came in one start — he only allowed five earned runs in the other four starts. In Game 2 of this series, he allowed one earned run across five innings with five strikeouts. It won’t be easy against the Giants, but he has done so well against them already I definitely want him in my lineup and have no issue putting him in the Champion spot where his multiplier jumps to 2.35x.
Logan Webb, San Francisco Giants (1x)
Another great pitcher on the opposite side with experience against his division rival. In three regular season starts against the Dodgers, Webb has dominated giving up just four earned runs in 16 innings pitched with 17 strikeouts. He started in Game 1 of the series and was even better, striking out 10 in 7.2 scoreless innings. I expect a low scoring affair with great pitching. so I want Webb in my lineup as well. Putting him at Champion jumps his multiplier to 1.5x.
Mookie Betts, Los Angeles Dodgers (1.9x)
Betts is one of the best players in baseball. He can hit it to all fields with power and has great speed that can help us with extra bases, runs or steals. He also has been playing great in the postseason, hitting .350 with hits in all but one of the Dodgers five games so far. Last but not least, he is hitting each of Webb’s pitches with at least a 131 wRC+ this season.
Will Smith, Los Angeles Dodgers (1.95x)
I’m a bit surprised by this multiplier, especially considering he is hitting .400 (6-15) in the series against the Giants. He is one of the best righty-on-righty hitters on the Dodgers and his high fly ball rate should counter Webb’s high ground ball rate.
Kris Bryant, San Francisco Giants (1.9x)
Bryant has been great this postseason hitting .462 (6-13) with a home run and hits in three of the four games. He is one of the premier hitters against left-handed pitching with a .401 wOBA, .270 ISO and 38.3% hard contact rate since 2019. He also has hit a home run and three singles in 13 at-bats against Urías.
Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants (1.9x)
Posey also has been hitting well in the series, getting a hit in each of the first three games with a double and a home run. He also has great history against Urías, going 9-18 with three doubles. Posey was also fantastic against left-handed pitching this season with a .431 wOBA and .255 ISO.
With it being an elimination game and two good bullpens that have had a day off to travel, the leashes for both starters will be fairly short. If the starters can avoid traffic on the bases as they have shown, then they will put up solid scores. Urías’ mulitplier makes him much more enticing especially since the Giants have struck out more in the series, but I like both pitchers in what I expect to be a low scoring affair.
I have no issues putting any of the hitters in the Champion spot since their mulitpliers jump between 2.85x and 2.95x. However, it is tough to lose the upside of a starting pitcher in the Champion spot.
